Brewing Terms:

The Brewing Process

Our brewery has a 7bbl capacity. Our 7 barrel system is equivalent to 217 gallons of beer, 31gallons per barrel. Essentially we can brew 217 gallons of beer per brew.

MASH TUN ( MT )

In the mash tun malted barley is mixed with hot water to create a sweet liquid called wort. The wort is then drained from the mash tun and transferred directly to the brew kettle.

BREW KETTLE ( K )

This is where the wort is boiled and hops are added. Once the boil is complete the beer is then cooled and transferred into a fermenter.

FERMENTER ( F1, F2, F3, F4 )

In the fermenter yeast is pitched and the fermentation process begins. The yeast eats the sugars and creates alcohol. This process usually takes 2 weeks for ales and 3-6 weeks for lagers. After fermentation and conditioning the beer is transferred to the grundys.

GRUNDY

A grundy is similar to a keg but on a much lager scale. Ours are located in a cold room downstairs below the bar area. From there, the beer is served directly to the beer towers at the bar.

SPENT GRAINS

The grains that are left behind in the mash tun, once the wort is transferred, are called spent grains. We donate our spent grains to a local cattle farmer to use as feed for his live stock.

ON TAP

Our selection of beer is always changing. We offer five beers on tap in a variety of styles for everyone’s different tastes. Every week or so at least one of the selections will change, making room for a new type for everyone to try. These selections are always posted on the blackboards behind the bar and on our Beer Menus. Ask your server what’s on tap today.

SAMPLE TRAY

Can’t decide which beer to have? Then try a Sample Tray, it’s a seven ounce glass of each beer we have on tap.
